#### **The engineering behind a customer-reported $12 million annual reduction in LDHI expense**

Follow the fluid testing and operating-state analysis behind a revised hydrate-control strategy. The customer reported approximately $12 million per year less LDHI expense.

#### **A costly safeguard deserved a fresh look**

For a mature deepwater tieback, continuous low-dosage hydrate inhibitor (LDHI) injection had become a significant operating expense. The operator asked whether the treatment was still required under its current production conditions.

The case study follows the engineering behind that decision. It shows how produced-fluid evidence and system simulations supported eliminating continuous LDHI injection during assessed normal production, and why shutdown and cold restart required a separate operating procedure.

#### **What you’ll learn**

- How the team used produced-fluid testing, water analysis, and hydrate modeling to reassess the treatment basis.
- How simulated normal-production conditions were compared with the fluid-test evidence.
- Why the normal-production conclusion could not simply be applied to shutdown and cold restart.
- What changed in the operating procedure, and how the customer described the resulting LDHI expense reduction.

The customer reported approximately $12 million per year less LDHI expense after the change. The case also reports more than a year of hydrate-free operation following the SOP revision. Those observations describe this asset; they do not establish a treatment rule or expected saving for another system.
